城市末日场景特效制作解析 - City Destruction Breakdown with Houdini
Smile – For one building destruction sim was taken about 3 hours, Geometry number: sixty thousand, 800 frames the most difficult part for this building destruction was how to control the “glue” if use general glue setting, and the glue is too strong, then the building will be to hard to fall down, but if the glue it too wake, then the building will fall apart into more and more small pieces., How i did in my reel was, i have set the glue as “-1” According to the animation, we will have larger disconnect point and small disconnect point, and the area near the disconnect point, i use “impack” to control the radius of glue, and according to the “ID”, i was able to pick the point where the secondary collision happen, and based on that collision point, to do the secondary destruction again. And the next thing is Pin constraint, i had computed the speed of disconnect point(how fast the cement gets broken) and then use the to adjust my pin constraint. In my reel, you see multiple building destruction, in this case, i can’t sim all the building destruction at same time, so i was simed a low poly as a starting point, after looking at the order of how each building falling into another, then do the high-res destruction sim based on that order.
After i finished this project at BeiJing, China, I had spend about 10 months to working on tools by using Python, and now i have made a set of tool for houdini, to make this kind of destruction faster. Thanks my friends billy and leibiao
